Edward Brightman of Spalding, grazier & Edward Brightman his son, bound to
Matthew Clay of Bourne, tanner, for £1,000
on 1 August 1738
The son was bound apprentice to Matthew Clay for 7 years, by an indenture, also
dated 1 August 1738. According to that, he was free to leave at the end of the
second year. This bond was to cover Clay against any adverse influence from
Brightman’s trading or activity during the remaining five years.
