The Parliamentary Gazetteer’s Summary of Sempringham,
1843.
Sempringham, a parish in the
wapentake
of Aveland, parts of Kesteven, union of Bourn, county of
Lincoln ; 3 miles east-south-east of Folkingham. It contains the townships of
Birthorpe and Pointon. Living, a discharged vicarage with the
curacy of Pointon, in the archd. and dio. of Lincoln
; rated at £2 15s. 8d., returned at £28 ; gross income
£131. Patron, in 1841, Earl
Fortescue. The church is part of the ancient priory founded
here, in 1139, by Sir Gilbert de Sempringham.
Here is a daily school.
Acres 3,480. Houses 93. A. P. £6,668. Pop., in
1801, 358 ; in 1831, 490. Poor rates, in 1838, £288 6s.
