The Parliamentary Gazetteer’s Summary of Swinstead, 1843.


Swinestead [sic], a parish in the wapentake of Beltisloe, union of Bourn, parts of Kesteven, county of Lincoln ; 11 miles south-east by south of Grantham. Living, a discharged vicarage in the archd. and dio. of Lincoln; rated at £6 19s. 7d. : gross income £80. Tithes commuted in 1777. Patron, in 1841, Lord Willoughby d’Eresby. The Wesleyan Methodists have a chapel here and a Sunday school. Three daily schools are chiefly supported by Lord Willoughby d’Eresby. Acres 1,330. Houses 77. A. P. £1,881. Pop., in 1801, 306 ; in 1831, 402. Poor rates, in 1838, £128 17s.
