The Map from Joseph J. Davies’ Historic Bourne 1909.

This is a detail, covering the town, taken from the fold-out map in J.J. Davies’ book.

Brick yards can be seen bottom left and at the top towards the left. Wherry’s Mill at top centre, was then still working. Since 1894, the railway system had been at its most complete. The Old Grammar School had been closed since 1904 but the new one had not opened. Bourne water works was in North Road but the Spalding water works was helping to fill the former gap between the two parts of Bourne. The ribbon development in North Road was nearly complete as far as Mill Drove but the east side of Meadowgate still had some space. The mill and waterfall are noted at Notley’s Mill, Victoria Place. The Work House is clearly marked.
