Croyland Abbey: High resolution picture of the pulpitum and the wall built to close the nave when the chancel was demolished shortly after the abbey’s dissolution in 1539. The two piers with blind arcading were those of the western side of the crossing. The two doors allowed for processional ceremony and were one each side of the nave altar. As at Bourne, the nave served as the parish church so was not demolished by a speculator.

The engraving by Rev. Edward Moore appeared facing page 27 of the Lincolnshire Architectural Society’s report of 1861, illustrating a printed version of his own lecture on the Abbey.
