261 x 175 mm. vol. 1. 836 pp. + 9.pp. of index and 10 plates of portraits. vol. 2. 1186 pp. + 10 pp. of index and 18 plates of portraits. The DNB (James Sheridan Muspratt) says that he was invited in 1848, to start work on the project, publishing it in instalments. This was completed in 1860, when it was re-published as a book. In its time, this was a serious technical guide to chemical processes in industry, whether building, food, fuel or metallurgy.
